1960s porn was a lot different to porn in the 21st Century. Then there were a handful of producers and companies selling. Maybe a big handful, still very small production and retail. So producing and selling porn was a goldmine with an endless supply of mother load seams. 1960s porn films had to be shot on film, then had to be processed. Often illegally, the money was there so paying extra was no problem. Production was flush with money, few really cared about the cost. They knew once produced and duplicated the market for one film or set of prints was huge. Selling a set of 5 prints for a £1, 1,000 times wasn’t a problem. Selling a copy of 1960s porn magazine Color Climax from 1 shop 50 times was normal. Start to multiply that by all the porn shops in Europe and you can see the potential.
It was hard to produce 1960s porn and restricted outlets made a fortune.
Today people can shoot porn on a mobile phone, put up a website with a schoolboys knowledge of the Internet or sell it via sites that make it unnecessary to have a site and the market is flooded with producers and outlets. This is without unlimited access to free porn. Yes the market is possibly 100 times bigger. The supply side is 1,000s of times bigger and the slice of the cake is smaller for everyone in the porn business.
No complaints for me though, online porn gave us another outlet and for 10 years was fantastic. Will tell you more about this at the end.
